    Beschreibung

    Starbesetzter Spätwestern mit politischen Untertönen von Richard Brooks ("Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach"). Drei Oscarnominierungen: Vier Outlaws um Henry Fardan (Lee Marvin) und Bill Dolworth (Burt Lancaster) sollen die entführte Gattin (Claudia Cardinale) des reichen Ranchers Grant (Ralph Bellamy) befreien. Als sie den vermeintlichen Entführer aufspüren, merken sie, dass die Frau nicht gegen ihren Willen verschleppt wurde, sondern freiwillig zu ihrem Ex-Liebhaber zurückkehrte. Um dennoch von Grant bezahlt zu werden, schmieden sie gemeinsam einen listigen Plan.
