      Beschreibung

Until Paris 2024, no Indian female athlete with a visual impairment had ever won a medal at the Paralympics. That changed when Simran Sharma and Rakshitha Raju qualified to compete. To beat the world's best, they needed dedicated guide runners who could match their pace, rhythm and style. For athletes with visual impairments, guide runners are essential to their performance. In India, however, awareness of guide running is minimal, with few resources or incentives to train athletes as guides. BBC's Divya Arya follows Simran and Rakshitha on their journey as they partner with sighted athletes Abhay and Rahul to prepare for the Paralympics. Their combined experiences highlight the complexities of being women athletes with visual impairments - facing both gender and disability biases - in the male-dominated world of guide running. The film captures the heartbreak and triumph they experience as they compete at the pinnacle of para-athletics: the Paralympics.
