    Die Dokumentationsreihe zeigt die spektakulärsten Fälle der amerikanischen Polizei, die alle eines gemeinsam haben: Sobald sie an einen Tatort gerufen werden, beginnt für die Ermittler ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit. Finden sie in den ersten 48 Stunden keinen entscheidenden Hinweis, verringert sich ihre Chance, ein Verbrechen zu lösen, um die Hälfte. Denn jede verstrichene Stunde lässt Zeugen vergessen, was sie gesehen haben, gibt Verdächtigen auf der Flucht einen Vorsprung und lässt ausschlaggebendes Beweismaterial verloren gehen...
